Troubleshooting
1.Installation problems
They are typically caused by the followings:
- Old Windows 95 versions - Not supported - To update, install Internet Explorer 5 FIRST
- Installing on non US versions of Windows - NOT SUPPORTED.
- When trying to install twice.
- When aborting the installation of the Ebookstore
- When installing the Ebooks or illustrations in wrong
subfolder - see Installing for the first
time
- When using an unregistered version
If you do not have at least 120 MB of disk space
available, the installation will fail with a "disk
full" error message.
To be able to reinstall, you
have to uninstall the Ebook application first.
This can be done from the Windows uninstall utility in
the Control Panel (Add/Remove Programs)
Make shure you cleaned up the
Ebookstore folder before reinstalling.
2. Operating problems
They are typically caused by the followings:
- Power outage or unproper termination of application
or of Windows: index corruption of the Ebooks might occur.
Click on RESET from the first screen that pops up when
the application starts.
See next about the RESET function and options it
offers.
- Trying to load 2 or more instances of The Ebookstore
application.
This will cause the application to stop and display a
warning message in the small blue TV screen. Close the application. If
message persists, click on reset and follow instructions.
IMPORTANT: if any error message occurs, note it
carefully and send it to our support
team
3. ERROR MESSAGES AND VARIOUS ISSUES
- "THE APPLICATION HAS BECOME UNSTABLE" error message.
- INCREASING THE FONT SIZE WITHOUT RESULT
- "Wrong Install..." message after install
- The Ebook displays on part of screen area - (Note: normal display is full screen)
1 - "THE APPLICATION HAS BECOME UNSTABLE" error message.
Causes:
- When BDE is installed on your machine and you try to install the application. See Readthis_first.txt file located in program's folder.
- When BDE was previously uninstalled unproperly.
- If no reboot after install
- When 2 or more instances of application are called (after multiple clicks on application's icon, for instance...)
- When application is called, closed and recalled successively and too quickly.
- When not enough RAM available on the machine or because of a memory conflict with another loaded program. This could occur even when installed RAM capacity is equal or superior to 32 MB if application is called when other programs are loaded, using too much RAM space, or if some programs were closed but did not clean up memory space properly.
Solution: close the application and when prompted for SAVE, choose YES. If next time application is called, a message on small blue TV screen says: "ERROR - Other instance of application running..." - Press RESET and follow instructions - CLOSE application - wait a few seconds and call application again.
IF "THE APPLICATION HAS BECOME UNSTABLE" error message persists, close all programs and REBOOT the machine, this will clean up memory.
2 - INCREASING THE FONT SIZE WITHOUT RESULT - NO ZOOM.
Causes: no corrisponding font set is installed on your machine.
Solution: Check for the type of fonts installed (CONTROL PANEL - Font type is Times New Roman) and see if exists or not installed - Install the missing fonts and resize from SETTINGS tab in main application window.
NOTE: when no larger fonts availble on machine, the Zoom function will
display texs with the maximal fonts size installed, so this might result in no zooming in case above.
3 - "Wrong Install..." message after install
Causes: install did not perform correctly (aborted, not enough disk
space, etc...) or shortcut to Ebookstore1.exe in Start Menu is not functionning properly.
Solution: Check if files were all installed first - SEE "A.FILES - FOLDERS INSTALLED BY THE APPLICATION."
If this message occurs although installation was performed correctly,
search for EBOOKSTORE1.INI file, located in the main directory, and
double click on its icon to open it with Notepad.
When program is installed in C:\Program Files\The Ebookstore (default
install) correct manually the first line under "[Directories]" starting
with "0=....." to "0=C:\Program Files\The Ebookstore".
The lines under the "[Directories]" paragraph should show as follows:
[Directories]
0=C:\Program Files\The Ebookstore
Current=0
Note 1: if during install, you selected another location (example: D:\Programs\The Ebookstore) correct that line to:
0=D:\Programs\The Ebookstore
or to whatever location you chose.
Note 2: Ebookstore1.ini file is created the first time the application is
launched after install. This file does not come up with install package.
4 - The Ebook displays on part of screen area - (Note: Normal display should occupy 100% of screen area)
Causes: unadequate Windows Display settings, when set to "small fonts", in the Control Panel, and the display is higher than 800x600.
Solution: To adjust, open the Control Panel (from Windows START menu, select SETTINGS/CONTROL PANEL then click on DISPLAY icon then select the SETTINGS tab and then LARGE FONTS or OTHER. When selecting OTHER, you can adjust manually to any value. CAUTION: selected value should be under or equal to 125% of normal size !
5 - Other display problems
Causes: unsupported display settings
Typically:
- color palette (in WINDOWS CONTROL PANEL/DISPLAY/SETTINGS) inferior to 65536 or High Color(16 bits) - NOT SUPPORTED
- Desktop Area (in WINDOWS CONTROL PANEL/DISPLAY/SETTINGS) inferior to 800x600 pixels, or equal to 1024x600 with Font Size = Small Fonts
Solution: adjust (in WINDOWS CONTROL PANEL/DISPLAY/SETTINGS) your Windows display settings, correcting Color Palette, Desktop Area and/or Font Size items.
6 - Capturing text and pasting to another application
It is recommended to open the application where to paste to before calling The Ebook.
When opening The Ebook first, capturing text and opening the application where to paste to next, it is indispensable to close the "ZOOM" form (press "close") before calling the application where you want to paste the text to. Failing to do so could freeze The Ebook.
Solution: If this happens, to close The Ebook, call the Windows Task Manager (pressing CTRL-ALT-DEL), select "The Ebookstore" inside displayed list and then "End Task". Restarting The Ebook, if a message indicates that another instance of application is running, press RESET, then "OK" for "Cancel message Other instance...", then close and exit The Ebook, then restart again.
